miletus
This ancient city, located at the mouth of the Meander river, one of the largest cities in Anatolia, now in the vicinity of Söke, was once linked to Didyma by a 10-mile long Sacred Way, flanked by stone lions, sphinxes and statues of seated priests and priestesses.

When you arrive at the site of the ruins, the magnificent theater of the city appears in sight at first. The theater had been constructed during Hellenistic period, then enlarged by Romans to hold 15,000 people, and a fortress was built upon it during the Byzantine period.

Adjacent to the theater, there are the baths that Faustina II, wife of Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD), had ordered to built.
